Ben Shires
Ben has been commissioned by UKTV's DAVE to write weekly podcasts – The Dave Weekly by Ben Shires! Already the highest new entry in the download charts. He's also the voice of 'Pot Noodle Gti /Unilever/Mindshare – Ultimate Night Out', a project series of short form video content created for Bauer Media and their client Mindshare/Unilever.Back in June, Ben wrote and presented a satirical show based on the World Cup called 'Wrapped Up' for FMX for You Tube. With over 150,000 viewers each episode, this went down extremely well! Ben also landed the role as roving reporter and prankster on the 'Idiot Awards' made by Twofour productions for E4. He is a huge gadget user and enthusiast and has presented the 'Mini Series' from Intel HQ in Silicon Valley as well as from the EA Games Festival in the UK.
Unlike some people, for whom being thrust into the limelight is akin to spending an evening slowly roasting over a fiery spit, a need to entertain is in Ben Shires' blood and has been since he received an emergency transfusion from moustachioed showbiz impresario Barry Chuckle at the age of 5. Twenty years on, and though his feelings towards facial hair have remained stoically indifferent, he has since been imbued with the unshakeable belief that entertainment could and should flow in a direct current from "me (him), to you (you)".
Having initially trained as a lawyer and accepted a job with a leading London law firm, it didn't take Ben long to realise that his irrepressible enthusiasm was better suited to cameras than contracts; besides which he'd already decided that his soul was not yet ready to be relinquished. Wrangling his way out of the binds of the legal world, he has been knocking impatiently at fame's door ever since, waiting until he can be sure it's popped to Tesco before nipping in through its side window.
Following a quick trip back to his Yorkshire homeland to inform his supportive if slightly bemused parents of his decision, Ben launched a fully-fledged assault on the Television universe. It's a journey that's seen him present on live daytime TV through GMTVs Sofa Factor, reach the last two in ME4T4; Channel 4s search for a new T4 presenter, front coverage for BBC Blast, MTV News and the EA Channel and in perhaps his defining moment to date, have Alexa Chung label him 'creepy' on national television.
Elsewhere, he's been flexing his wit and intellect hosting Leap Anywhere.com's online strand, bamboozling the great and the not so great at many a red carpet shindig with his trademark irreverent, cheeky and satirical humour – at one point even convincing Rolf Harris to admit that 'Tie me kangaroo down, sport' did in fact condone cruelty to animals. Such a repertoire led to him last year being chosen to front Intel's World of Tomorrow campaign, journeying to California to film a series of 12 'webisodes' which went on to be promoted worldwide across the Sky network.
Most recently Ben has been seen hosting a pilot for a new satirical current affairs pilot, The Evening Fix, honing his stand up routine and putting the finishing touches to his own show, a semi-autobiographical mockumentary, co-written and co-starring himself as a jobbing TV presenter – the inspiration for which he finds difficult to pinpoint.
