Irish born Zara Boland is a qualified clinical vet and member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.  She has travelled extensively and been in veterinary practice for a number of years, which has brought her into contact with nearly every type of animal species from stick insects through to kangaroos!

Originally from Dublin where she qualified as a civil and structural engineer, she obtained her vet degree in Sydney and has most recently been veterinary spokesperson for Nestle Purina in the media.  Her spokesperson role has seen her talking about the real issues affecting our pets today such as obesity and how to age healthily and has involved regular pieces to camera as well as radio interviews and written articles.  She is due to feature on a number of episodes of the upcoming new TV series ‘Pets For Life’ in association with The Blue Cross airing on Sky in July 2011 where she talks about petfood nutrition and may also feature on an episode of the new series of Jimmy’s Food Factory for the BBC later this year.  Zara will also be public speaking at The London Vet Show in November 2011 on the topic of ‘Encouraging Pet Ownership; building community ties’.

Zara is extremely passionate about all animals and has many funny stories and anecdotes to entertain, but her real focus is on education.  With a keen interest in animal nutrition and behaviour she is motivated by helping owners to understand how best to care for their chosen companions and how to strengthen the emotional human-animal bond that’s so fundamental to all pet-owner relationships.  She also has a rare skill when it comes to translating technical medical words and concepts into everyday language and a natural warmth that instantly engages.

Zara’s clinical work has seen her treating dogs suffering from the effects of snakebite to performing dentals on orangutans, alleviating constipated pythons and coping with the odd elephant with diarrhoea!  She is bright, friendly, knowledgeable, articulate and most importantly already has experience of talking to camera on her specialist subject.  Below are a couple of clips of Zara in action:
